What is included in the Head Start Impact Study dataset?

Many files are included in the Head Start Impact Study (HSIS) restricted use file. There are 26 instrument files—one file for each instrument by year. The instruments include a parent interview (2002-2006), child assessment (2002-2006), teacher survey (2003-2006), teacher child rating (2003-2006), center director interview (2003-2004), care provider interview (2003-2004), classroom observation (2003-2004), and family day care observation (2003-2004). Additionally, there is one file for the subgroups and covariates used in the HSIS analysis, one file for variables derived from more than one instrument (child experiences file), and one weights file. Each instrument file provides the source variables as well as any variables derived from the instrument. The weights file provides the cross-sectional weights for each instrument and data collection period as well as three sets of longitudinal weights to be used with children with assessments at two or more time points, children with assessments at three or more time points or children with a teacher survey and teacher child report in both kindergarten and 1st grade.
